Five things that could go wrong, and why it won’t matter

After months of hard work planning your big day, anything that could go wrong, probably will, right? Well, yes, right. There’s a good chance there’ll be a few little things throughout the day that just won’t go according to plan, because, well that’s life. But guess what? When you’re running high on love and laughter with your nearest and dearest we promise you, you won’t even notice! Here are five things that could go wrong, and why it won’t matter.

Unpredictable children

The problem:

How cute is it that three-year-old Susie will be walking down the aisle with you? And it is. Even if at the half way point she suddenly gets a strong case of stage fright and bursts in to tears, or decides she doesn’t want to hold little Alfie’s hand but would rather run around the venue screaming instead.

Why it doesn’t matter:

Children will be children and both you and your guests know what to expect. Worst-case scenario your guest’s hearts will melt at the sight of a tear-stained little girl, or you’ll all have a fun story to talk about after the wedding. Just hold your head up and carry on with your day and let someone else take care of the kids.

Unexpected downpour

The problem:

You’ve been keeping your fingers, legs and toes crossed for about a month hoping for good weather on your wedding day. but alas on W-day you wake up to a torrential downpour. The worst has happened!

Why it doesn’t matter:

One thing we’re used to in the UK is rain. And your venue, photographer, cake maker and even your guests will all know what to do. So you didn’t get that picture of the two of you smiling in the sunshine! You’re married now, there’ll be hundreds more sunny days for you to get snap-happy on. Plus rainy wedding pictures are so hot right now!

Ripped dress

The problem:

Hair’s done, makeup’s on and it’s time for the dress. But within 20 minutes of wandering around your train gets caught on your heels and before you know it, there’s a nice, neat little hole in the hem, and you haven’t even walked down the aisle yet!

Why it doesn’t matter:

Chances are any hole will be so small and insignificant that nobody would notice. But, if you’re Maid of Honour is as prepared as she should be, she’ll have a handy little sewing kit ready to fix the problem before you’ve even realised it was there.

Awkward toasts

The problem:

He’s not just your groom’s best friend, but part of your family now too. You’ve always loved him, that was until he stood up with the mic and started regaling your guests with the time he and your new husband spent the night behind bars for being drunk and disorderly at 5am.

Why it doesn’t matter:

As much as we like to think our elders have always lived an innocent life, they’ve probably lived it all before and will most likely be laughing along with the rest of your guests. Enjoy the jokes and save the berating for after the honeymoon.

Vendors MIA

The problem:

The cake/favours/centrepieces that you spent months perfecting haven’t made it to the reception on time. The day is over, everything is ruined. The wonderful wedding you’ve always dreamed of is just that, a distant dream that will never come true.

Why it doesn’t matter:

When you look back on your special day you’ll realise you didn’t even notice the favours missing from the tables. And your guests? They were too busy admiring the happy couple and dancing along to the incredible playlist you and your groom spent night after night putting together on Spotify.
