The 5 most common queries every bride has about her wedding stationery!
It’s simple, right? If you’re having a wedding, you need to send out invitations. You add the time, place and location and you’re good to go. Or so you thought.
To really do it right, you need to include as much information as possible. That’s why we asked stationers Ivy Ellen, who have got all your wedding stationery questions answered.
When should I send my invitations out?
Most couples send out their wedding invitations between 2 to 4 months before their wedding day, depending on the time of year of the wedding. If you’re getting married in the busy summer holiday period it’s worth considering sending save the date cards 6 to 12 months in advance to ensure your guests don’t double book!
Is it rude to make a gift list or ask for money?
Many of your guests will want to buy you a present or make a donation for your big day and one subtle way to pass on this information is to include a poem on your information inserts. This is a very popular choice among our customers and is a very polite way of doing so.
Here are some beautifully creative ideas for your wedding invitations!
What extra information do I need to give my guests?
Quite often our customers like us to print directions and accommodation information onto wedding invitation inserts as they may have invited family members that are travelling from different areas around the country, or even from abroad.

How do I state a dress code?
The dress code can be stated on the bottom of your wedding invitation or on your information inserts. Some customers apply their theme to the dress code requesting brightly coloured dresses or pretty summer frocks. However, if you are planning a traditional wedding the usual dress code is black tie and cocktail dresses.
How many invitations should I order?
A really common mistake is assuming that because you have 100 guests you’ll need 100 wedding invitations. Remember you may be sending invitations out to couples or families, which will bring the number down. You also need to make sure you have a few spares just in case. Typically, if you have for example 100 guests, you will need about 65 invitations.
