With a combined age of 193, these two lovebirds are set to tie the knot this June as the world’s oldest couple!
Age is nothing but a number for these two lovebirds: with one being a centenarian and the other in her early 90’s (to-be-confirmed by the Guinness Book of Records to be the oldest couple in the world!), together they’re proving that love knows no limits and it’s never too late for a wedding!
George Kirby, 102, and Doreen Luckie, 91, of Eastbourne, East Sussex have been together for almost thirty years and are now planning to get married on George’s 103rd birthday this June.
The happy couple met 27 years ago in 1988 through a program that offered to match up seniors looking for companionship. Mr Kirby, a former boxer and Ms Luckie a former typist were paired together due to their similar interests and have been living together since 2013 in a hotel owned by George’s son Neil. Between them they have seven children, fifteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
George romantically proposed to Doreen on Valentine’s Day and the two are set to married on June 13th. Mr Kirby told of how he felt it was time and that his wife-to-be keeps him young.
The long-lasting couple bowed to pressure from their elderly children but are now just as excited to tie the knot.
Doreen said: “I won’t be much of a blushing bride but I’m getting a bit giddy thinking about it!”
They will get married at the Langham Hotel in East Sussex and will break the record for the newly married world’s oldest couple, previously held by a French couple with a combined age of 190.
George Kirby, on his Facebook account stated that the Guinness Book of Records officially accepted their entry for the oldest couple in the world!. Mr Kirby also stated that he was revelling in all the attention they were receiving and was glad he didn’t marry her years ago!
