Keeping guests entertained on the big day

How to keep your guests entertained on the big day

You’ve spent months and months planning the perfect day, ensuring you haven’t sat aunty Margaret next to one of your groom’s loud friends, the centrepieces match the cake and that you’ve got the perfect play list to keep your guests dancing all through the night.

There’s plenty of booze, the food tastes pretty good and you plan to send them away with amazing memories and a cute little trinket to remember your special day. Everything’s covered, right?

But there’s one point in the day that couples often forget about and wedding venues fail to mention. Those few hours between finishing dinner and the DJ arriving, when your guests will start to feel like it’s time for a nap.

Your nearest and dearest have been at your wedding probably since lunchtime, where they may have headed straight to the bar. You then (generously) plied them with champagne after the ceremony while you were having the pictures taken, and then they’ve all sat down to enjoy a lovely civilised meal, with yet more wine.

Now that they’re raring to go, they have to wait to get the party started. So, what can you do to ensure your family and friends don’t start to lag? This is the perfect opportunity to look again at those more obscure entertainers. You know, the ones your partner wanted but you weren’t so keen on.

That walkabout magician will be perfect for filling the void, especially if you’ve got a few little ones running around. Or how about a caricature artist? Your guests can have a laugh at each other’s funny likenesses, and neither of these will take up any space in the venue.

If you’ve got access to an outdoor area consider getting some oversized games such as snakes and ladders, giant skittles or jenga. These will be perfect for whiling away a few hours and it’s even better if you encourage a spot of rivalry. Who will be the champion of skittles?

If you were considering a casino table for the evening do, why not bring it forward a few hours and get the competition going earlier in the night? It’ll also help keep more guests on the dance floor later, rather than gambling away all of their (paper) money throughout the evening.

With fun from morning ‘til night, whatever you choose to do, we’re sure your guests will claim it was the best wedding they’ve ever attended.
