It seems that in 2015 Weddings are headed West!
For most people “weddings” and “The Wild West” don’t exactly go hand in hand, but this year it seems that top wedding trends are evoking a distinctly “rustic ranch” vibe. With antler motifs and lots of leather accents this is a trend that you can easily pull off- and you don’t even have to step foot on the prairie!
Wild West Weddings are popular because they combine the comfortable feel of “rustic” with a traditional kind of elegance. Fun animal motifs and faux antlers have been popular in home decor for a while; bringing homes a touch of masculine, hunting lodge style. So it’s no surprise that this has become popular on the wedding scene.
We at Weddy are against animal cruelty, but you can create the look by using faux taxidermy along with faux animal fur throws. If full-on hunting lodge isn’t really your thing then you can merely hint at it by using cute animal prints or images. Antlers really can go anywhere; so don’t forget to add them to your invitations along with a wood-grain print to give your guests a taste of what’s to come.
For your venue think either outdoors or a really airy indoor space- ideally with exposed beams. Contrast a wood-heavy room with large flowers to add feminine elegance to a masculine space. Soft accents such as heavy knits, and faux fur work alongside leather-look materials to add texture and warmth.
Lighting is an important factor in creating this rustic ranch look. Aim for soft lighting- while fairy lights seem to be a staple for weddings it is probably best you avoid them otherwise your wedding venue may end up looking more like Santa’s Grotto. Instead, opt for candles and perhaps a chandelier (if you’re feeling fancy), this will give you the twinkle effect that fairy lights are known for but without the Christmas vibe.
When it comes to the cake, keep the detail minimal and instead let the texture do the talking. Naked cakes are a good choice, otherwise opt for a neutral toned buttercream cake. Sat atop a nice hunk of wood and accented with minimal natural decorations your cake will pull the look together.
Forget gold or silver, when it comes to pulling off this wedding style; brass is best. Copper tones will pull man-made and natural elements together. Opt for copper jugs as vessels for bunches of pretty wildflowers as a nod to a simpler way of life.
While on the subject of flowers, be sure to add some desert flowers to your bouquet. Succulents are seeing a rise in popularity at the moment and are a perfect way to add a bit of the desert into your arrangements.
As for the wedding dress; think Little House on the Prairie meets 21st century chic. Lace is both elegant and classic so try opting for a long sleeved number like Princess Kate, to capture the essence of Wild West Weddings gone by. For the groom we recommend some stylish cowboy boots. A cowboy hat and plaid shirt is probably a step too far, but if he can rock it? Why not!
