Britain’s very own Wimbledon Champion, Andy Murray and his beautiful new wife Kim Sears have finally tied the knot in Andy’s home town of Dunblane
Today is a very exciting day for Dunblane - and for all you wedding and tennis lovers. Britain’s very own Wimbledon Champion, Andy Murray and his beautiful new wife Kim Sears have finally tied the knot in Andy’s home town of Dunblane. Their wedding is certainly one to celebrate having been in the making for a decade now, and I’m sure we speak for everyone when we say: we wish we were there to see it!
Their wedding has been on the cards for a while. Meeting when they were only 17, Andy and Kim remained teenage sweethearts for his entire professional career and it wasn’t until last year that Andy popped the question, planting a three carat diamond ring on Kim’s lucky finger.
Jealous much, ladies?
After much preparation and excitement, the day is finally here and it’s a big day for everyone - the couple, their family and friends, the fans, and especially the small town of Dunblane.
It’s not often than Andy returns to his home town. Currently living in Oxshott, Andy has admitted on a number of occasion to sorely missing his childhood home. He knows and is proud as anyone how much he is respected and adored there, and the town’s celebrations and decorations surely show their appreciation.
Dunblane has always been proud of their celebrity son, and the townsfolk sure know how to show it, throwing themselves into the celebration with enthusiasm. Bunting lines the streets, and their local butcher celebrates their union with heart shaped burgers. Local retailers show their adoration in the form of banners and cardboard cutouts of the happy couple, and Kim even had a bespoke garter made for her by the kind owner of Point Nouveau Bridal shop. Everyone’s in the wedding spirit - it’s infectious!
The couple married in the beautiful Dunblane Cathedral, moving to Cromlix Hotel House for their reception. The wedding seated British tennis player Jamie Delgado, but the couple chose to keep the guestlist small, with many of Murray’s famous competitors such as Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer unsurprisingly not receiving an invitation. Although the couple planned a relatively private reception with only close friends and family attending, there’s no doubting that Andy’s fans will have swarmed the streets.
Just like any of us average couples, Andy admits to having left much of the wedding planning to Kim - although he did take an interest in the food.
Well, they do say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.
Think your wedding photographer is a tad pricey? Andy’s wedding photographs have been rumoured to cost him £1 million - yes you read that right - and we can’t wait to see the official ones published.
In fact, we were pleased to find out how instead of asking for wedding gifts, the generous couple have asked guests to make a donation to UNICEF, the World Wildlife Fund, and other charities which they loyally support.
And the honeymoon, you ask? Due to Andy’s strict tournament schedule, the couple are said to be postponing their honeymoon until later on in the year, so that Andy can continue doing what we all know and love him for.
